Oh my goodness, I had EXACTLY the same dress to wear as Dido, probably around the same time. Spooky!! I have a photo (although it doesn't show the entire dress, you'll see what I mean), will post it on FB to amuse you :-)

And I never got to be the ingénue either. At drama classes I begged for Ophelia's speech and got Caesar's wife, and Portia. And I'm moving into the old ladies too... I suppose at least we don't have to obsess about looking 17, like some of the poor sopranos!

I am sure you will be brilliant as Marie - have a ball!!

Ma Hilsabeck made all our costumes. She had a very simple formula that involved folding a big square piece of material in two, cutting holes for a belt, and voila! There was minimal sewing involved ... although with these, there must have been SOME sort of sewing.

We share the mezzo fate when it comes to roles! One day someone will write a brilliant leading role for me that involves my series of romances with a horde of hot young men. I'm waiting. It will probably be called something awful like "The Cougar". *Taps foot impatiently*.

Yay! Love the new blog, and the format. Of course, as a Mezzo with Character myself, I am always interested in your adventures! xox
