My mom is a breast cancer survivor. They had discovered it when it spread into her lymph nodes, so it required a mastectomy. I don't say that to frighten you, I say that that despite the initial scare, she survived and she's been cancer-free ever since.

Good for you for showing your support with marriage equality!!

Karen, so sorry about your mom, but glad she is doing all right! I was so shocked to hear from Mom's surgeon that ONE IN SEVEN women get breast cancer. I know four people besides my mother who are survivors. We are very lucky that Mom's is one of the slow-moving ones, and her prognosis is very good.

Thanks for your good wishes. :)

Glad to know your mom's surgery went well, and that her prognosis is good. So glad you were able to be there! Sending her best wishes for a speedy recovery.

It is a very difficult aspect of this career that we can't always be there for our family. I wrote about this very thing last week in my blog (http://divaonadare.blogspot.be/2013/04/on-being-far-away.html). Unfortunately I am still a student and living in Europe right now, so I can't often afford to be with my family at difficult times.. I'm so glad that in this case you were able to be there for your mom.
On another note, I remember reading about this whole coffee shop debacle on Slipped Disc and am very happy to hear that something positive has come out of it. Hooray for opera singers supporting civil rights!
