Thanks Cindy for sharing the sad and bitter truth of the business of opera making, and how a new experience got you thinking, questioning and looking for a different way. Before transitioning to a career in opera I had run challenging classrooms, supervised colleagues, explored and developed learning and worked in a collaborative manner with a range of experiences. Working in Opera was a strange strangling environment. Still that's what I wanted. The landscape of work, those engaged in musical environments and those wanting it's soundscape are changing and opera companies must change to keep up with those new expectations. Sooner rather than later.
