I'm still here, folks! Life has just been overwhelming for the past few weeks. In addition to preparing two opera roles, auditioning singers for my summer opera workshop and making all the complicated arrangements for its operations, a weekend trip to New York for coaching and lessons, currently directing an opera and prepping our spring performances for the end of next week, I have my usual schedule of teaching, and am still trying to catch up on day-to-day chores. To top it all off, the moment my in-laws went home after their wonderful visit, my husband promptly got sick ... and as soon as he was well, I followed in his footsteps.
So it has been a trying month for both food and exercise. The funny thing is that I usually am not hungry at all, and when I am, I only want to eat dairy. I have an unhealthy obession with the self-serve frozen yogurt places that have sprung up all over Austin. The yogurt itself is not a bad nutritonal deal, but you have to be very careful about all the candy toppings they offer. When I'm not craving frozen yogurt, I want my homemade smoothies (nonfat plain yogurt, soy powder, unsweetened chocolate almond milk, and frozen fruit).
As for P90X, I really made a valiant try last week. It was Week Seven, the last of the second phase, and I got off to a good start with my lifting, abs, and plyo routines. I got a day behind once again due to schedule changes, and was all set to double up one day and make sure I finished strong --- but then I got sick, and it just wasn't happening. So, as soon as I feel up to it, I plan to finish out this week with some random workouts and then redo Week Seven next week.
My thoughts have also been yearning towards running lately. It's been nine months since I even tried to run, and I miss it. I think my feet could handle it, especially with all the training I've been doing, but right now there just isn't any extra time. However, it would be hard for me to keep up the P90X when I travel this weekend, so maybe I'll just do a little running instead.
Clearly my body and mind need to slow down for a while, so while I am not happy about getting off my schedule, it's what needs to happen and I will heed it. Also, I'll use the rest of this week to get my eating normalized once again. Yogurt is great but you gotta have veggies as well.
Yep, sometimes hangin' in is the best you can do. Good thing my fingernails are strong.
