In New York this weekend for lessons and coachings to get ready for my upcoming brand new role. Quel tragedie! Niko's, my favorite Greek restaurant on the Upper West Side has closed! Sadness. Now where will I get my bouillabaise?
I worked out here yesterday. Specifically, the Astor Place location, which is very funky/luxe goth. It's easily the most stylish gym I've ever visited, and thanks to my friend Nicholas, I got to do a little time on the elliptical and a really fun Pilates class there.
The last time I did Pilates was at least a year ago, so there was no telling how it might go. On our way downtown, Nicholas confessed that he felt like a capsized bulldog puppy in class. (Then we agreed that the video makes us mad ... help that lil' pup up already)! I confess there were times when I too felt like that puppy, but overall it went very well and was very enjoyable, even with all the panting and sweating and grunting. My core strength has improved quite a lot.
I am still on hiatus from P90X for a few more days, but it will be really good to get started again. The room here has a large full-length mirror, so I got a really good look at myself the other day, and was pretty pleased with what I saw. I haven't lost much weight on the program (mainly because I'm not sticking to the diet plan very well, and this is another thing to be addressed next week), but my body has definitely begun to change shape. I may not ever get a "beach body" but that's not really the goal ... the goal is to be in the best shape of my life, whatever that may be.
Probably because it's just such a pain to maintain, I am not as fussy as I used to be about food on the road. It might be better if I were, but it takes a lot of work and effort to police oneself so carefully and at this moment in time, I simply do not have the energy. However, this is not an excuse to pig out! I brought along a couple of packages of oatmeal and a banana snagged from the President's Club (wish they had more healthful options there) for breakfasts, grabbed an overpriced nicoise salad at the airport for lunch, and often snag a protein bar and/or a smoothie for lunch on the go here in town. I eat something more substantial for dinner --- tandoori mixed grill one night, hummus with veggies, falafel, and labane the next --- and have the leftovers for lunch the next day.
My next several gigs involve home stays in places where there may or may not be an organic or "healthy" grocery store around. Most places have a small selection of organic products these days, but you just never know. Also, one never knows what kind of space one will be in. P90X doesn't take a lot of room, but there is a lot of jumping around that could disturb my hosts. So that's the next fitness challenge facing me --- maintaining healthy habits when I'm traveling so much and have so little control over my environment!
I know I'm not always good at keeping up with commenting, but I miss your posts! You're such an inspiration! Hope everything is okay, and you're just busy. :)

Hi Cindy,
this is unrelated to your blog entry, but I thought you might be interested by this article. It's a bit long and brought back some of the not-so-good memories of chemistry classes, but a good read I thought: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/17/magazine/mag-17Sugar-t.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1
