Today's deliciously warming fall lunch: spinach salad with a handful of walnuts and dried cranberries, drizzled --- drizzled, mind you! --- with about a teaspoon of Mother's Cashew Tamari Dressing; and a bowl of (I shudder to type it) semi-homemade French Onionish soup. Semi-homemade because I used the Imagine brand French Onion soup base instead of making my own; but I did sautee onions and mushrooms (that's where the -ish part comes in) and deglazed them in a bit of Pinot Noir. It's yummy and satisfying meal after a chilly run along the Ohio this morning.
I started the day with a walk around the beautiful property where I'm staying.
Startled a couple of deer, and saw (and heard) a HUGE hawk. Also, this morning when I was making my coffee, an owl was hooting softly in the trees just outside the window --- one of my favorite sounds, and always a good omen. Wish I'd seen it.
After my little walk, I headed down to the river for my run. It was chilly and gray, but still a fine day for a run!
This is the "Spirit of Louisville" passing under one of the bridges.
Not to be confused with the Belle of Louisville, a beautiful paddlewheeler! It has a calliope, too, which plays on Saturday mornings, often to the dismay of the guests trying to sleep in at the nearby Galt House hotel.
I just love that the waterfront has not park benches, but dozens and dozens of lovely swings! They're fun --- I tried one out after my run. What a great way to sit and contemplate the river.
There's also a lovely Lincoln memorial.
It was kind of a hard run --- just had a hard time getting going today, felt heavy and slow. But hey, it can't all be cake (so to speak). Now I'm ready to go to rehearsal and run around some more. (So far, it's a very active show, and there's gonna be a big girl fight at the end of Act III. I'm hoping we'll end up rolling around on the floor).
In the meantime,I'm very pleased with my food plan for the last couple of days. It's gone well, and I'm thinking that this peace and quiet and isolation, lonely as it is, may be just what I need to get myself focused again. Tonight the cast is going out to a bar after rehearsal --- it was just announced this morning --- so I am making adjustments, skipping my afternoon snack and planning to have one drink. If we order food, that will become dinner. It does take a little adjustment to get back to this way of thinking, but the nice thing is that the more you do it the more it comes to mind on its own, and the easier it becomes. So you just have to get over the hump, and then you have to keep momentum.
And I have a new motto, which I will repeat to myself as needed:
BREAD IS A SPECIAL OCCASION FOOD.
