Well, Obidos ... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I certainly don't believe that a woman has to be young, or slender, for that matter, in order to be beautiful. And I'm not sure where you get the idea I'm afraid. In fact, I'm not really clear on what your point is at all.

Obidos

The fact is that young women are invariably beautiful women...it is only after having consumed a whole load of Subways, Potbellys etc that they become the women you are thinking about there. Perhaps the women you fear! :)

In the interests of balance, the same goes for guys too.

Marta

I'm 100% with you and your rant. I recently moved back to the USA after 6 1/2 years in Italy. The most we got there on TV were ads for panettone and pan d'oro maybe a few others. Certainly not the over proliferation of crap that's on TV now. And I wonder about those kids who see these ads loaded with Christmas gifts unrealistic holiday bounty. It's painful for me. and then the print ads for Tiffany and Cartier...ok, better stop. It's getting so that I don't want to see the color red...and then the damn Target commercial. Basta!

AMEN! sister. Like H. Skippety, I celebrate Advent. There is not one decoration up at this point except my advent candles, and gifts this year will be donations to a food cupboard and the AGMA relief fund. For the baby of the family I am knitting the cutest cable sweater and will knit a bunny to match . Done

Cindy

Lindsey --- how cool is that? Care to share your recipes? :)

Lindsey

Agree, agree, agree on the ad, on the shopping and pretty much everything in your rant. I made rhubarb cordial and chockcherry cordial from the plants in my garden for most of my Christmas gifts this year, or have purchased them from local artists.

Melanie

Hallelujah!!! Thank you for this!!! Wishing you peace and joy during the holidays. Melanie

H. Skippety

At my church we make a big point of celebrating Advent -- no Christmas tree, no Christmas carols, no Christmas decorations for a few weeks yet -- but we do use Advent wreaths to mark this time of waiting. One of the things I like about this is that it is inherently anti-consumerist. (Now, what am I going to buy to decorate that Advent wrea -- oops!)

Ishmael

Great comment, and I agree with you 100 percent on the Subway ad, and the anger with Corporate America on the buy, buy, buy message! Allow me to add to your rant by also pointing the finger at Hollywood. I am tired of forking over $15 for bland, warmed-over rom-coms, slick, violence-fueled smash-up action flicks, the "quirky" off-beat indie films with the characters who are deemed original because they have one charmingly off-kilter feature, etc etc etc. Yawn. Let's bring back creativity, and give that as a Christmas gift!
